New Islamic Center in Zamboanga City

Al Furqan Islamic Cultural Center

Breaking Barriers

Al Furqan

Al Furqan means the criterion to which right and wrong is determined.

Islamic Culture vs. Cultural Islam

Islamic Culture is the culture that is sanctioned in the two primary sources of Islam, the Qur’an and Sunnah. Islamic culture has be to be differentiated from the culture of Muslims in that the latter is whatever the Muslims of different parts of the world consider to be their culture. The culture of the Muslims or “Cultural Islam” may or may not be sanctioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Consequently, the Islamic Culture is one and the same throughout the world while “Cultural Islam” may vary according to time and place. Many a time, it is the practices of the Muslims that are not supported by the Qur’an and Sunnah that give rise to the common misconception about Islam.

Al Furqan Islamic Cultural Center (AICC)

Thus, AICC seeks to differentiate between the two cultures and promote that which is supported by Islamic sources and clarify the misconceptions brought about by those that are not supported.

Breaking Barriers

Unfortunately, these misconceptions created a barrier between the Muslims and their fellow countrymen contributing to widening the gap of misunderstanding between the two cultures. AICC’s motto therefore is to break these barriers, bridge the gap through meaningful dialogue and exchange of information.
